I was not on my game today. I really have to take my next fartlek to the track and do an old school speed workout instead. It started off just okay and went steadily downhill from there. I was walking at the 1/2 mile mark! Hubs insists that it’s because of the Dash yesterday. No way, says I. Yesterday was a shorter and slower (and less hilly!) than what I’ve done for weeks. I just wanted to have a good time and I did. Back to today. My legs weren’t sore at all, but I could really feel them loosening up during my warm up. I’m pretty sure I was just going too fast in the beginning. I was ready to go home before I hit that 1/2 mile. The only reason this run hasn’t been christened WORST. RUN. EVER. is because I stuck it out and finished the sucker. That’s what is keeping this in perspective for me. That and the fact that Sweet Little Monster was as close to angelic as is possible for a 4 year-old boy. Dinner was spot on, too. I’m resolved to not add extra rest days unless I am genuinely injured/sick. Lazy just isn’t a good enough reason.
I did another speed work out today. I still can’t tell if I’m doing it right. I guess that’s just something I’ll have to find out with time. I do find myself going faster than I think I should during my “slow” stretches. I took Sweet Little Monster with me today. He rode his motorcycle (as he calls it) and kept up really well. We did a little over 3 miles. I’m so proud of him! And myself of course. He really needs a nap today so now I’m guaranteed to be able to get him down. Genius mama moment! Anyway, not much to report. It was a very boring run. We went to the local park and just did laps around the soccer fields. Hubs was there practicing his kicks (his team made the playoffs and they have a big game tonight) and as back up in case SLM decided he didn’t want to stay with me. I hope to never do an entire run on that track again. So boring!
I’m now at the point where I can appreciate the importance of stretching. And on that note, it’s breakfast time!
I tried something new today. Instead of my usual moderate run I did a fartlek. Well, I tried anyway. I think next time I’ll do it without music. I absolutely could not concentrate on bursts of speed. I would zone out and then sprint a while before zoning out again. I’m not sure, maybe that’s how it’s supposed to work. All I know is I am drenched in sweat and my legs are all trembly and tired but I am full of energy! Loooove it!! (Yes, sometimes I sit down to blog before I shower. I call it “putting my run on the computer” and so far, everyone buys it. SHHHHH!) I saw four other people running! New record? I did a loop through the trails, but they were in the process of putting new cedar bark down on all the paths. It felt something like running in wet sand. Wild! But now I have to take the world’s fastest shower before heading to the in-laws’ (only the good one is in town!) for dinner. Muah!
